Paintings, Prints and Drawings

In recent years, pictures have been amongst the strongest selling items at Boningtons as our commitment to research, marketing, live internet bidding & international client base has resulted in some extremely significant sales across the globe. 2016 saw the notable sale of an important oil painting by Sir Winston Churchill for £203,000 which drew international bidding as well as significant press and TV coverage.  Other recent highlights have included the sale of a fine work by the highly renowned American luminist Alfred Thompson Bricher to the States for £19,000, a still life by in vogue Bloomsbury group artist Vanessa Bell to Australia for £14,000 and a beautiful work by Italian artist Lucius Rossi for £11,500 to a local collector.

Boningtons' Picture Department is headed by Luke Bodalbhai. Luke read History at the University of Bristol where his studies focussed upon the role of visual imagery in the European Reformation. Luke has significant experience as a researcher of old master and nineteenth century paintings and has a track record of successfully attributing many previously unknown works to notable artists. Boningtons therefore welcome consignments of paintings that may require further investigation and study which Luke is happy to undertake.

Boningtons' fortnightly antique sales offer a wide range of affordable oils, watercolours, drawing and prints. Our specialist Fine Art auctions offer an extensive selection of significant pictures, including those by well-listed artists ranging from the 16th century to the present day.

For advice regarding pictures in any medium, please contact the saleroom where a specialist will be on hand. Alternatively, you are welcome to e-mail us with your enquiry.
