Boningtons’ Essex saleroom is now open for viewing for our forthcoming Interiors sale on Monday 5th August. There are over 300 lots on offer including a significant selection of jewellery, silver, pictures, ceramics, furniture, works of art, stamps and much more. Highlights include a stunning platinum set diamond solitaire (Lot 2, estimate £5-6000), a pair of 19th century Royal Worcester ivory pot pourri lidded vases (Lot 236, est. £300-500) & a fine 19th century walnut double glazed bookcase with floral inlay (Lot 157, est. £200-300), all pictured left.
The undoubted highlight of Boningtons’ last auction was a late 19th century concertina by Charles Jeffries of London (pictured above). The 37 button example proved music to the ears of collectors who traveled from far and wide to view. The work was very characteristic of Jeffries’ finest pieces with decoratively pierced plated ends and tooled leather bellows, as well as being in good condition with its original case. It therefore drew fierce competition from a number of bidders both in the room, on the phone and via the internet, before finally being knocked down for a hammer price of £2800. Elsewhere there were some particular strong prices realised by the pictures, not least a pair of 19th century provincial portraits of a lady and gentleman (pictured left) which sold for £550. A full review of the sale can be found on the Boningtons Blog
The sale also includes a large quantity of pictures including some significant examples by well listed artists including original watercolours by Sir Walter Westley Russell (Lot 114, pictured) & Henry Barlow Carter (Lot 144, pictured), as well as a range of limited edition prints by renowned modern artists such as Bernard Dunstan (Lot 157) & John Brunsdon (Lot 164).
Boningtons is now accepting entries for several of its forthcoming Specialist Sales, including its Coins, Medals & Military & Asian Art auctions. If you are interested in consigning an item to any of these sales, please contact our saleroom directly for a free valuation.
