The rarity, quality and condition of a number of Louis Vuitton items proved irresistible to collectors in our recent sales. The quirky range of items, which included a travelling wardrobe, camp bed, cigar humidor, desk & various trunks, had been privately commissioned by the vendor and their uniqueness certainly added to their appeal.
The cigar humidor was the star of the show – capable of holding up to 100 cigars, it was not only functional but extremely decorative. After initial interest in the room and on the phones, it eventually sold online to a determined bidder in Germany for £48,000.
Also selling to the Continent was another unusual work – an ‘Explorators’ camp bed based on the design of an earlier 1905 model. Having been tried, tested and described as ‘extremely comfortable’ by auctioneer Guy Wisbey, it sold to again to an online buyer, this time in Holland, for £33,600.
