Many people think of antiques as ancient, priceless pieces of furniture that live in the mansions of the moneyed class and are beautiful to look at, but which should generally not be used much. But in fact, mid-range antiques are within many people's budgets, and they are a far cry from musty heirlooms that nobody uses. Mid-range antiques are actually a great way to decorate a home with the original furniture that many of today's "retro" furniture styles copy. And in almost all cases, the craftsmanship of the antiques is superior, and the look is unequaled.
We are still consigning for this sale and would welcome further Lots, please call the saleroom for a valuation or send a message using the form below
The Art Deco and Bauhaus styles are two early 20th century styles that work beautifully in today's modern homes. From sleek freestanding cabinetry to ultra-luxurious club chairs, the simple, modern lines of this 1930s style resonate with many of today's decorating styles. Many feature ornamentation in starburst shapes, and are made not only in wood and leather, but also in aluminum, steel, and plastic. While many modern furniture designers take their cues from this look, there is nothing as beautiful and timeless as the real thing, and much of this retro home furniture is more affordable than you may think.
Bauhaus furniture also has daring, modern lines with a minimum of fuss. And while you may not be able to afford an original Barcelona chair designed by Mies Van der Rohe, becoming familiar with the lines of Bauhaus classics will help you to better assess other pieces from the period and give you ideas about how to combine genuine retro home furniture to achieve the look that you want within your budget - a look that is unequaled by today's mass produced furniture.
