Tips for Attending our North London Auctions

North London auctionsIf you’ve considered attending one of our Essex / North London auctions, but aren’t quite sure what to expect or how to go about it, then we hope that this article will encourage you to come along. We’ve put together some tips to guide you and help ensure you get the most out of any auctions you attend.

Auctions can be exciting events to attend. There’s always the chance that you’ll nab yourself something wonderful at a bargain price, or go home with something truly rare and special. However in order to ensure you don’t get carried away by an adrenaline fuelled bidding frenzy, there are several things you should do before attending:

Before attending an auction

  • If you have any special interests then find an auction that includes the types of items you’re interested in (take a look at our Specialist Sales and Fortnightly Vintage Sales pages to see what’s coming up at our Essex/North London auctions).
  • We always advise that you come to the viewing day before the auction, as this will give you a chance to not only find out what items are being auctioned but also to check them out properly. Bring a tape measure if appropriate so that you can check any measurements.
  • Make sure the item you’re interested in is what you’re looking for and satisfy yourself as to its authenticity, etc. If you need any advice then we will be more than happy to help.
  • If you want to take advantage of our delivery service get a quote so that you can factor this into the cost.
  • Decide more or less what you are prepared to or can afford to bid and ensure you have the funds ready if appropriate. Don’t forget that a buyers charge and VAT will be added on to the hammer price (see our Buyers terms and conditions for more details).

Now you’ll be ready to attend the auction itself. Here are our tips for what to do on the day:

At the auction itself

  • Get there early on the day, get a paddle from reception and register if it is your first time attending.
  • Choose a place in the auction room where the auctioneer will be able to see you easily.
  • When the item you’re interested in arrives raise your paddle so the auctioneer knows you are bidding.
  • If you win the bidding announce your paddle number.
  • All that’s left now is to pay at reception and collect your items.

We hope this has encouraged you to go ahead and attend one of our Essex / North London auctions. If you have any further questions, then please feel free to contact us.
